Every day, Dr. Erik Richardson treats patients suffering from diabetes and other illnesses resulting from obesity. A family practice physician, Dr. Richardson sees the obesity crisis firsthand. When asked about the Keto or the Genesis diets, but Dr. Richardson counsels his patients to “keep it simple.” Start by cutting out sweets and liquid calories, exercise, educate yourself and try a couple of new recipes a week. He also talks with parents and teaches them about foods to avoid and appropriate snacks. “If we don’t stop that family tree of obesity is just going to continue.” In this episode, Dr. Richardson also talks about safe weight loss, bariatric surgery, impacts of fast food addictions, benefits of nutritional counseling, problems with insurance reimbursement rates, and other issues related to rising rates of obesity.
